About the original
Celebrate woman of the New Will, Salome is the girl of Hérodiade which had married with died of her husband the brother of this last, Hérode the tétrarque one. Saint Jean Baptist for whom it was not allowed such a marriage, thus attracted himself the resentment of Hérodiade. One Hérode day gave a great feast. Salome, danced so well and charmed everyone so much so that the Master of the places declared that it to him would be given what it would like. Pushed by her mother, Salome asked that at the moment even one brought to him on a dish the head of Jean-Baptist, which was made.
Jules Desbois belongs to this whole of experts who after an initial formation in province, arrive to Paris where they integrate the workshop of Rodin to carry out ornaments and to take part in the many orders of the Master. Under the influence of this last, its personal work is made movements and expressions as in this Salome carried out about 1912. Tormented drapery is due of draped wet to the level of the thighs, and of bubbling at the base for better suggesting the speed of displacements and the instability of the figure. This part of work is not without pointing out the Victoire de Samothrace. But with the difference in the latter the general movement is not as well forwards rather as upward, well in the taste of the art of this beginning of century. The sensual bust, the tension of the body feels solid training in anatomy of the sculptors influenced by Rodin.
